As you may or not may not sesame street as just released a new character her name is lily. Lily was created to highlight the issue of hunger.Seven-year-old Lily will talk about her insecurity over whether her family will have enough to eat. The Muppet receives her food from a food pantry and also volunteers there. “When you don’t even know whether you’re going to have a next meal or not, that can be pretty hard,” Lily tells Elmo. It’s an issue that hits home as access to food is uncertain for as many as 17 million children in the U.S. I Personally don’t think Sesame street is the place to address this issue. Their is a time and place to address this problem but a show for 5 year olds is not the place. The point of sesame street is to teach young kids about numbers, letters, colors, and shapes not the hunger crisis. Children that age will not understand what exactly this crisis is. There minds have not yet developed to the point of understanding or caring about the issue. I have a 5 year old sister who would defiantly not understand the point of this character. In a 5 year olds mind the thought of hunger doesn’t cross there mind except around meal and snack times. I feel like the hunger crisis is a big problem as much as the next person but It should be addressed on a show where the viewers actually understand how serious a problem this is. I have always been a sesame street lover and have watched It my whole life, I have never had a bad thing to say about the show and still don’t but I definitely do not agree with this addition to sesame street, But… I will say Its a nice idea to add a new character after all these years and I can guarantee when I have my own kids they will be raised watching sesame street.
